"The youth need many things to help them be successful; strong extended families, good teachers, positive peer group, strong internal compass, motivation, etc. I think Partners is an important ingredient in this mix. Having a caring adult who is willing to listen and serve as a role model is important."

Mission

The mission of Partners Mentoring Youth is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships between positive adult role models and youth who are facing challenges in their personal, social and/or academic lives.

We believe that through a combination of volunteering + generosity of spirit, a mentor can give and gain life-long benefits from a mentoring relationshipw ith a local youth. The relationships (Partnerships) established through our youth mentoring programs last a minimum of one year and require a 3-hour-per-week commitment from both the Junior and Senior Partner. In that three hours, Partnerships commit to spend time doing whatever it is that benefits their specific needs and interests. Partnerships thrive on sharing their already existing lives and activities, while also enjoying new experiences together.

Matches are made based on the needs of the child and on the personalities and interests of both the Junior Partner and Senior Partner. The youth are all referred to us by professionals in the community who work with youth and families often in a counseling role, such as School Counselors, Private Therapists, other Human Service Agencies, etc. and their participation is voluntary. Professional Case Management staff members carefully screen and evaluate any Colorado volunteer who wants to be a part of the program, and simultaneously get acquainted with the personalities and needs of each individual youth. These same Case Managers provide regular support and guidance to the new Partnerships to aid the growth of the friendship. In addition, Partnerships are also enhanced through the fun, organized activities, life-skill trainings and community-service opportunities offered by the Partners program.

Youth mentoring services, like Partners Mentoring Youth, work! Junior Partners show positive changes in many areas, including:

Increased self-esteem

Increased academic achievement

More future-oriented thinking

Decrease in negative attitudes and behaviors

Senior Partners also experience multiple benefits from time spent volunteering + generosity given. Senior Partners experience a sense of satisfaction in giving back to their community, in addition to the fun of connecting with youth. The lives of both the Junior and Senior Partners, as well as the communities around them, are enriched by the Partnerships!
