 NEXUS YOUTH SPOTLIGHT

Ten-year-old Danea likes bowling, Twister and Monopoly. Raised around adults only, she struggles with interacting with other kids. She needs a Senior Partner who can help her build self-confidence and give her positive outlets for her emotions. Danea hopes to become a veterinarian when she grows up, and loves spending time with animals. She is very excited to try horseback riding with her Senior Partner. Nexus Program

Once a youth is referred to the Partners Mentoring Youth program, they participate in the Nexus Program.  The Nexus Program provides fun and educational activities for youth every month while they wait to be matched with a Senior Partner.

The goal of the Nexus program is to keep the youth engaged and plugged into the Partners program, so they benefit from the influence of role models even while they wait to be matched.

Screened Activity Volunteers are an essential part of the continued success of the Nexus program. If you would like to participate in our program but can’t commit to weekly hours with a Junior Partner, please check out our Volunteer page to get more details about becoming an Activity Volunteer, one of our best Northern CO volunteer programs!

Following is a profile of one of the great kids in our Nexus program. If you, or someone you know, would make a great Senior Partner for a youth like Katie, give us a call at 970-484-7123. The positive influence of a role model will make a huge impact in her life!

Waiting for a Senior Partner

Name/Age:  Katie/age 11

Likes:  Cooking, swimming, playing hide and go seek, playing house, playing school and going to the mountains

Dislikes:  Math, and when people get upset and yell without a good reason

Needs:  Katie is the oldest child in her home and has had to grow up fairly quickly.  She would really benefit from some positive one-to-one attention from an additional supportive adult in her life, who will let her “just be a kid.”  She is very quiet and shy, but will open up when someone engages her in a conversation.  She struggles with math and could use some extra encouragement with her homework.

Positive Attributes:  Katie has a very sweet spirit.  She is very smart, intuitive and is easy to talk to.  She has a willingness to learn and try new things.

Things She Wants to Do:  Katie would like to go horseback riding in the mountains on a “breakfast trail ride.”

Could you spend just three hours per week in our Northern CO volunteer program and become a consistent, positive influence in Katie’s life?
