Refer A Child

How do I get a youth involved in Partners?

Understanding children at risk is essential to making an informed recommendation of a young person to Partners Mentoring Youth. All youth who are involved in the Partners program must be referred by a professional in the community who works with youth and their families, most often in a counseling capacity.  The most common referral agents are School Counselors, Private Therapists, other Human Service Agencies, Medical Professionals, Youth Pastors and Probation Officers, all of whom have first-hand knowledge of the factors that put youth at risk of not reaching their full potential in life.

We encourage parents and guardians who would like their child referred to Partners to contact a potential referral agent involved in their child’s life and ask them if they believe that Partners Mentoring Youth would be a good fit for their child.  We at Partners are always happy to visit with parents, answering questions and suggesting appropriate professionals to make a referral.

Referred youth and their families must be willing to commit to a one-year partnership in which the Junior and Senior Partner spend an average of three hours a week together for the year.  First and foremost, youth and their families agree to support the growth of a trusting and positive relationship between the Junior and Senior Partner. They also agree to initiate regular (monthly) communication with their assigned Partners Case Manager. These Case Managers bear understanding of children at risk and the complex factors that put youth at risk of making poor decisions as they move toward adulthood. Case Managers serve as a supportive resource to youth and their families in the Partners program.
