Become an Activity Volunteer (AV)
Once a youth is referred to the Partners Mentoring Youth program, they participate in the Nexus Program – a program designed to provide fun and educational activities every month while youth wait to be matched with a Senior Partner. Research shows that these safe, drug- and alcohol-free activities are successful in countering factors that put youth at risk, as well as assisting in positive growth and development.
Activity Volunteers have the opportunity to take kids to and from activities and hang out with them during the trip. These activities include wall climbs, local sporting events, arts and crafts, archery, trips to Fort Fun to play laser-tag, and many more. Yes, that means you get to play laser tag, too! Activity Volunteers are asked to fill this role on an every-other-month basis (or more if you'd like!) for the duration of each activity.
The Activity Volunteer opportunity is good for individuals who don't feel like they can commit to the Senior Partner role but still want to work directly with youth. It’s a great fit for people who:
• Build rapport quickly with youth
• Have limited time available
• Love taking part in fun and exciting activities
• Want to get to know the Partners Mentoring Youth program and the youth it serves
Becoming an Activity Volunteer is a wonderful way to get familiar with Partners and often becomes a stepping stone to many other exciting volunteer opportunities within the organization.
Activity Volunteers are required to pass a thorough screening process, have consistent access to or own a vehicle, have a current driver's license and proof of auto insurance, have been a resident of the state of Colorado for at least six months and be at least 18 years old.
