How do I get a youth involved in Partners?

Understanding children at risk is essential to making an informed recommendation of a young person to Partners Mentoring Youth. All youth must be referred by a professional in the community who works with youth and their families, most often in a counseling capacity.  The most common referral agents are School Counselors, Private Therapists, other Human Service Agencies, Medical Professionals, Youth Pastors and Probation Officers, all of whom have first-hand knowledge of the factors that put youth at risk of not reaching their full potential in life.

Referred youth and their families must be willing to commit to a one-year Partnership in which the Junior and Senior Partner spend an average of three hours a week together for the year.  First and foremost, youth and their families agree to support the growth of a trusting and positive relationship between the Junior and Senior Partner. They also agree to initiate regular (monthly) communication with their assigned Partners Program Coordinator. These Program Coordinators bear understanding of the complex factors that put youth at risk of making poor decisions as they move toward adulthood. Program Coordinators serve as a supportive resource to youth and their families in the Partners program.
